The auction scheduled for celebrity chef Laura Sharrad and her husband Max’s beachside home has been called off.

Selling agent Thomas Crawford, of Crawford Doran, revealed the news just hours before it was due to go under the hammer today, stating it would be “contracted in advance”.

“We will be calling for best and final offers ahead of today’s scheduled auction, and as such, there will no longer be an auction at 17 Anthony St, Henley Beach,” he said,

“Based on the position of the interested parties and the nature of the offers currently being considered, we believe bringing the campaign to a conclusion prior to auction is firmly in the vendors’ best interests and provides the strongest opportunity to achieve the maximum possible result.”

The property was due to go to auction on August 20 but it was called off hours before.

It was expected to sell prior to the time the auction was scheduled to take place.

The home hit the market earlier this month.

The beachside home hit the market earlier this month with a $1.8m price guide.

The three-time MasterChef Australia contestant – twice a runner up before returning to win the competition in 2025 – and her husband have lived in the circa 1915 villa for the past four years.

The modernised home spans two levels and has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, multiple living areas and an outdoor entertainment space with built-in pizza oven.

Its kitchen and outdoor area are well known to Ms Sharrad’s social media followers, with many of her cooking videos filmed in the house.

Ms Sharrad said when the home hit the market earlier this month that the couple was initially attracted to the home’s location and charm.

“We loved the charming beachside location, the fact it was on a quiet street and walking distance from the beach, the charming villa frontage, the iconic white picket fence, and the lifestyle of living by the water,” she said.

Bringing her daughter Florence, now two years old, home after she was born and sharing the beachside lifestyle with her as she’s grown were some of Ms Sharrad’s best memories in the property.

The couple, who co-own Adelaide restaurants Fugazzi Bar & Dining Room and Nido Bar & Pasta, decided to sell the home to move to the Adelaide Hills.

“It’s been a huge decision – a year in the making – to find our next home,” she said in early August.

The home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, multiple living areas and an outdoor entertainment space with built-in pizza oven.

“We want to create something that Florence can truly be wowed by – a lifestyle of home-grown food, ducks and chickens, acreage, and somewhere to build a forever home.

“We are wanting to create a space that can be the backdrop for my work, a TV series maybe, a garden to supply future ventures, and a hub.”

Apart from it being Florence’s first home, Ms Sharrad said she has loved using it to test recipes and MasterChef dishes.

“I wish I could take that pizza oven with us – it’s a truly special build by The Brick Chef (Samuel Fraraccio, a specialist stone mason and wood-fired equipment builder) in Victoria who has built probably every well known chef’s wood ovens across the country,” she said.

“It’s an entertainer’s dream.”

Mr Crawford said when the home hit the market that its blend of character and modern features with the luxury of a backyard had proved attractive to househunters but the location was its main selling point.

“Everything there is underpinned by location,” he said.

“If you’re generally going to the beach, you’re going to Henley – it doesn’t get much better than Henley Beach.

“It can quite often not be affected by broader market conditions.”
